Corrosion is a major problem with steel pipe systems onboard ships which can end up costing in excess of four times the initial investment due to the replacement and extra dry dock time over the life-time of the ship.

An innovative and cost saving PROVEN idea from THISTLEBOND Advanced Polymer Division to help reduce the maintenance and operational costs to vessel owners.

A large number of ship owners have vessels within their fleet that are over 15 years old.

Due to the harsh environment the world fleet works under, many of these vessels require well planned maintenance.

ThistleBond has developed a system which allows the ships own engineers and maintenance staff to perform in situ repairs of large diameter pipe, unrestricted by the length of pipe affected.

To repair badly corroded ballast pipes, ships engineers have the following options at present –

• May have to make extensive preparations to replace corroded pipe work due to difficult locations (below deck etc)
• Live with the leakage (that not only can be costly but also hazardous)
