What are IPN's?

IPN's are super high performance, hybrid polymers. Complex in structure, but simple in principle. They build on the desirable properties of commercial polymers, while leaving out their undesirable features.

For example, epoxies are good in adhesion and chemical resistance, but poor in UV resistance. Acrylics resist well against UV but they can not bond to wet surfaces well and they have shrinkage, flammability, odour, and brittleness problems. Urethanes, on the other hand, are flexible and tough, but they suffer the drawback of hydrolysis which allows water ingress over time causing blisters.

IPN's, therefore, build a polymeric backbone which gets its adhesion and chemical resistance from epoxies, UV resistance from acrylics, flexibility and toughness from urethanes, and other properties from other polymers, while leaving out their poor properties.

Just what kinds of polymers are used as starting materials, what kind of IPN's are built from them, and how this whole process works are closely guarded trade secrets.

Many different classes of materials are manufactured using IPN adhesives, sealants, caulks, primers, and coatings. All are 100% solid, containing zero solvent.

These products are used to construct, repair, maintain and operate: machinery - equipment - buildings - structures.

  • There are no application problems associated with solvents like blisters, pinholes, cracking, peeling, or delaminating
  • IPN's have excellent shelf life. In their sealed containers, they are good next month, next year. That means you can stock IPN's now for emergency use much later
  • IPN's are intercompatible, self priming, and self repairing. That means you can buy one IPN to do the job of 4 even 5 competitive products. Less to buy, ship, stock, and apply. Less investment in time or money. More control.
